1.6. System of pillows of safetyForward pillows of safety
The system of forward pillows of safety together with seat belts in addition protects heads and the top parts of bodies of the driver and the passenger on a forward seat in case of serious head-on collisions.
The prevention
The maximum protective action of seat belts and safety pillows is reached only at correct adjustment of seats.
The system of forward pillows of safety does not work:
– At lateral blows;
– Blows in a back part of the car;
– Overturning;
– Weak front blows.
Safety pillows at all do not replace seat belts and are one of the important elements of passive safety of the car. It is necessary to mean that the greatest efficiency of action of pillows of safety is reached only at their sharing with seat belts.
The system of pillows of safety includes:
– An electronic control mean system and the control of its functional readiness (the management block);
– Two pillows of safety (air cushions with газогенератором) for the driver (in a steering wheel) and the forward passenger (in the panel of devices);
– A control lamp in a combination of devices.
Functional readiness of system is supervised by the electronic device.
After each inclusion of ignition the control lamp of system of pillows of safety lights up for some seconds (self-examination).
The following testifies to infringement of functional readiness of system:
– At ignition inclusion the control lamp does not light up;
– Approximately through 3 with the ambassador of inclusion of ignition the control lamp does not die away;
– After ignition inclusion the control lamp dies away and then again starts to burn;
– During movement the control lamp burns or flickers.
The prevention
In each case of infringement of functional readiness of system resulted above it is necessary to check up necessarily it in service enterprise Volkswagen. Otherwise there is a danger that in case of need pillows will not work properly.

At operation of system air cushions are filled with working gas and, being inflated, are developed before the driver and the passenger.

Lateral pillows of safety
Lateral pillows of safety are placed in pillows of backs of forward seats. You can identify them on inscription AIRBAG in the top part of the back party of backs of seats.

The system of lateral pillows of safety does not work:
– At front blows;

The system of lateral pillows of safety at all is not replacement to seat belts and represents the important element of passive safety of the car.

Between the passenger sitting on a forward seat and a place of placing of a pillow there should not be people, animal or various subjects. Besides, it is impossible to attach various accessories, for example coasters to doors.
On hooks for clothes it is possible to hang up only small and easy things.
For small things it is impossible to store in pockets heavy or with sharp sides subjects.
It is impossible to subject lateral faces of a back of seats to influence of the big forces, for example strong blows or pressing, – thus it is possible to damage system of lateral pillows of safety.
In no event it is impossible to put on covers which are not recommended by manufacturer forward seats. Otherwise at disclosing of lateral pillows of safety their protective action will be limited.
Pillows, подвергшиеся to critical loading in road accident, it is necessary to replace.
