1.10. An automatic transmission
The control system of an automatic transmission provides various programs of work of a transmission. Depending on actions of the driver or car traffic conditions the program gets out: economic, reducing the fuel expense, or active which it is conditionally possible to name "sports".
The choice of the program of work of a transmission is carried out automatically according to a kind of work of the driver an accelerator pedal.
At the slowed down or normal kind of work possibility of economy of fuel appears an accelerator pedal thanks to early inclusion of higher transfers and late transition to lower transfers.
The so-called "sports" program of work of a transmission gets out in that case when management of an accelerator pedal is carried out sharply enough. At a choice of a "sports" mode reserves of capacity of the engine thanks to some delay of switching on higher transfer are completely used.
The program of a manual choice of transfers (Tiptronic)
Presence секвентального a gear change mode (the system «типтроник») gives the chance to the driver to switch transfers manually.

To pass to the program of manual switching it is possible both on the motionless car, and at its movement; for this purpose it is necessary to translate the selector (fig. 1–29) from position D to the right. At a gear change on the display it is underlined, what transfer is included at present (fig. 1–30).

At selector moving forward (+) (fig. 1–31) transfers consistently raise, at moving back (–) – consistently go down.
At car dispersal 2, 3 and 4 transfers shortly before the moment of achievement by the engine of as much as possible admissible frequency of rotation automatically join.
If the driver passes to lower transfer, the block of management of a transmission will include this transfer only when there will be no danger «перекрутки» the engine.
On the display in a combination of devices position number in which there is a selector is displayed.
During car movement never translate the selector in position R or the River
Р – lay blocking
Driving wheels are blocked.
The selector should be established in this position only at a full stop of the car. Before inclusion and deenergizing of position P it is necessary to press the blocking button on the selector handle. Before deenergizing of this position at the included ignition it is necessary to press a brake pedal in addition.
R – a backing
It is necessary to include only at a full stop of the car and at engine work idling. Before transition to position R from positions Р or N it is necessary to press a pedal of a brake and to press on the blocking button in the selector handle.
In position R at the included ignition backing lanterns burn.
N – a neutral position (an idling position)
At a conclusion of the selector from position N at speed of movement to 5 km/h, and also at the motionless car and the included ignition it is necessary to press a pedal of a brake and the blocking button on the selector handle. It is not obligatory to press the blocking button when the selector is translated from position N in position D.
D – long advance
Four transfers are switched automatically with low to higher and on the contrary depending on loading on the engine and speeds of movement.
Under certain conditions movements expediently temporarily to use one of resulted below positions.
3 – a position for "hilly" sites of road
It is recommended, when in certain traffic conditions at position of the selector in position D there is a frequent switching with 3 on 4 transfer and on the contrary.
For selector transfer in this position it is necessary to press the blocking button in the selector handle. Are automatically switched upwards and downwards 1, 2 or 3 transfer depending on loading to the engine and speeds of movement, 4 transfer is blocked. Thanks to it efficiency of braking by the engine raises also at a fuel stopping delivery.
2 – a position for mountain sites of road
It is recommended at long liftings and descents. Are automatically switched upwards and downwards 1 or 2 transfer depending on loading to the engine and speeds of movement, 3 and 4 transfers remain blocked to prevent unnecessary switchings on the higher transfers. Thus efficiency of braking by the engine also raises.
1 position for mountain sites of road with the big biases
To choose this position it is recommended at driving on steep slopes and descents. To include this position, it is necessary to press the blocking button on the selector handle. The car moves only on 1 transfer, 2, 3 and 4 transfers are blocked to prevent unnecessary switchings on the higher transfers. The greatest possible efficiency of braking is thus reached by the engine.
In a position of 1 selector it is impossible to use cruise-control.
At a manual consecutive gear change on fall it is possible to pass to positions 3, 2 and 1, however automatic switching on lower transfers occurs only in that case when after switching as much as possible admissible frequency of rotation of the engine is not exceeded.
The device of compulsory anticipatory switching on lower transfer ("kik-daun")
The device provides maximum in the given traffic conditions car acceleration. As soon as the effort to an accelerator pedal will exceed certain threshold value, depending on frequency of rotation and speed of movement there is a switching on one of lower transfers. Switching on the following, higher transfer will follow only at achievement of as much as possible admissible value of frequency of rotation of a cranked shaft of the engine.
On slippery road compulsory anticipatory switching on lower transfer can cause proslipping of driving wheels.
Recommendations for choice positions
To start up the engine it is possible only at position of the selector of management in position N or the River
For selector transfer in one of movement positions at the motionless car and the working engine it is necessary to press a brake pedal.
At a position choice at the motionless car it is impossible to press an accelerator pedal.
If during movement of the car the selector is casually translated in position N, before lever transfer in any position of a forward course it is necessary to release a pedal of an accelerator and to lower frequency of rotation to idling.
At the working engine when the selector is in any of movement positions, it is necessary to keep the car pressing a brake pedal as even idling the engine twisting moment transfer on wheels does not interrupt completely – the car "creeps".
If at the motionless car one of movement positions is chosen, in no event it is impossible to press an accelerator pedal (and to increase giving of fuel by a hand from a motor compartment), differently the car will begin movement even at the included lay brake.
Before to spend any actions with working engine, it is necessary to establish the selector in position P and to include a lay brake.
Movement from a place
Choose one of movement positions (R, D, 3, 2, 1). Wait transfer inclusions in a transmission and the moment of a start of motion of the car (weak jerk) and only is thus felt then press an accelerator pedal.
At a short-term stop, for example before a traffic light, there is no necessity to pass to position N. It is Quite enough to keep the car pressing a brake pedal. The engine should work in an idling mode.

On road with a bias include lay a brake, and then establish the selector in a position of lay blocking. Thanks to such operations procedure the blocking mechanism will not be too strongly loaded, and subsequently it is possible to deduce the selector from this position easily.
Towage for the purpose of engine start-up
Towage or pushing of the car with an automatic transmission never can lead to engine start-up.
At the discharged storage battery for start-up of the engine by means of connecting wires it is possible to use the battery of other car.
