13.3. Replacement of a cooling liquid

Replacement of a cooling liquid by cars with petrol engines of 2,8 l is more low described. Replacement of a cooling liquid by cars with other engines is spent similarly.
To replace cooling liquid it is necessary after carrying out of any works on elements of system of cooling with сливом for a cooling liquid. If at repair the head of the block of cylinders, linings of a head of the block, a radiator or the oil heat exchanger was replaced, it is necessary to fill in a fresh cooling liquid in cooling system. It is connected by that the anticorrosive additive in a cooling liquid at engine work is besieged and creates anticorrosive protection. The prevention
At opening of a cover of a broad tank on the hot engine it is necessary to be careful, as leaving steams can lead to strong burns. For this purpose close a cover of a broad tank a thick layer of a fabric and slowly unscrew it before occurrence of a hissing sound. After the hissing termination slowly unscrew and uncover a broad tank.

Lift a forward part of the car and establish on support. Uncover a broad tank.

Release clamps and remove the bottom mudguard of a motor compartment (fig. 3.1–1 see).
Establish under the engine reception pallet VAG 1306 for gathering of a cooling liquid.

Unscrew a carving stopper from a radiator (fig. 7–5) and merge cooling liquid. That the cooling - liquid did not spill, instead of a carving stopper insert a hose.

Loosen the a collar, remove a hose 3 (fig. 3.1–3 see) and merge cooling liquid in the pallet.
Loosen the a collar, remove a hose, move it downwards and merge cooling liquid from a radiator.

Disconnect an additional hose of system of cooling in the bottom part of the oil heat exchanger and merge cooling liquid in the pallet (fig. 3.1–4 see).

Unscrew a carving stopper plum of a cooling liquid from the block of cylinders of the engine (fig. 3.1–5 see).
At stopper installation it is necessary to use a new sealing ring.
For fuller plum of a cooling liquid submit under pressure air through a stopper of a broad tank.
If the cooling liquid is strongly polluted, wash out cooling system. As cooling liquid cannot be merged completely from cooling system, it is recommended to wash out each time at plum of a cooling liquid cooling system.
Screw in a stopper plum of a cooling liquid with a new sealing ring in the case of the water pump and tighten its moment 20 Н·м.
Establish the bottom mudguard of the engine and lower the car on the earth.
Move a regulator of temperature of system of heating to position of the maximum temperature.

Unscrew two заглушки for air removal, the systems of cooling located on pipes about a broad tank (fig. 7–6).
Instead of a cover of a broad tank screw in carving adapter VAG    1274/1 with a tube in diameter of 42 mm and height 100 mm. It is necessary completely to fill system of cooling of the engine with a cooling liquid and to remove from it air. In the absence of the special adaptation it can be made independently. As a variant it is possible to unscrew a broad tank from an arm, to lift it together with the connected hoses on height of 10 sm and to fix in this position.
Cooling liquid fill in in a broad tank until it will not follow through carving заглушки for air removal. Screw заглушки the moment 20 Н·м.
Remove from a broad tank the adaptation which was established instead of a cover, and screw a cover on a broad tank.

Disconnect an electric socket (fig. 7–7) from valves.
Establish the switch of temperature of a heater in position of the minimum temperature.
Start up the engine and allow to it to work during 3 mines at frequency of rotation of 2000 mines-1.
Check up level of a cooling liquid and if necessary finish it to norm.
On the hot engine level of a cooling liquid should be at label level max, on the cold engine between labels max and min.

Structure of a cooling liquid
It is not recommended to use earlier applied mix of antifreeze and anticorrosive means G11 which has green colour. It is forbidden to mix anticorrosive means G11 and G12 as it can lead to serious damages of the engine.
If in cooling system the cooling liquid which has been not recommended by the manufacturer has been filled in, merge it from cooling system. Fill in in cooling system pure water, start up the engine and allow to it to work idling 2 minutes Merge water from system of cooling and through a broad tank blow system of cooling of the engine the compressed air. Fill in the fresh, cooling liquid recommended by the manufacturer.
